Made for construction locations, where materials should be transported on surfaces that are not paved are rough terrain forklifts. The safe and correct use of rough terrain forklifts is essential to be able to guarantee the wellbeing of both the driver and other personnel at the work location.
Terrain
These trucks are made for rough terrain, but care should still be taken to be able to prevent tip overs. The forklift is top heavy and must just be operated on level ground when lifting.
Speed
Drivers of forklifts should always drive at a safe speed even though there are no Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations governing the speed limitations of forklifts. Driving on rough or uneven terrain needs even more caution. Steering, in particular, could be very unsafe at higher speeds.
Incline
If you are operating on a slope, you must keep the load on the equipment's uphill side. The rule of thumb is drive up, and back down. Never try to lift a load while operating on a sloped surface. The change in the center of gravity can cause the equipment to tip over.
Safety Devices
Drivers of forklifts must always put on seat belts like any driver. Make sure that the overhead guard is securely in position. Depending upon the working surroundings, hearing and eye protection may need to be worn. Make certain that a functioning fire extinguisher is mounted on the forklift.
Weather
The operating conditions of a forklift can be affected by weather. Turning, load handling and speed may need to be adjusted to guarantee safety when operating a forklift in rain, snow or ice.
