History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was initially established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The first name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid in 1937, when the Salzgitter Group bought a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machinery. During 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years. Currently, SMAG is the world's market leader, using grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and global cargo handling applications.
